Death Certificates are probably one of the best sources for information when doing genealogy. Though they varying, year to year, and state to state about the format...generally they supply the name and address of the individual, birth and death dates, location of burial, whether or not the person served in the military, the parents names if known; as well as where they were born. They indicate a spouse's name most generally, who the informant was for the certificate, and who the funeral home was that was involved. They indicate the cause of death and can give clues about whether the spouse died before or after them when they list married vs widowed etc. Many times they are hard to read, and they are not 100% accurate; even though they are an "official" document. They are as accurate as the informant providing the information. Sometimes errors can be chalked up to the family member being in a stressful situation when providing the information. The informants name can often be a clue about other family members.
